"Every day in state capitols around the country, lawmakers are making decisions on issues that affect Commercial Interior Design and how interior designers practice. As the voice for the industry, IIDA advocates for its members and the profession so interior designers may practice to their fullest abilities. Become an advocate today." #IIDAadvocacy
Our IIDA Florida Central Chapter advocates for the interior design community in defending the right to practice our profession.
April 13, 2017:
Representative Halsey Beshears, the prime sponsor of HB 7047 that would have caused great harm to the interior design profession, has informed our lobbyists that he will be removing interior designers from the bill. The bill will no longer repeal interior design licensure or mandate that a person become an architect in order to practice interior design.
Please know this victory would not have been possible without you and the supporters of the profession. To everyone who responded to our calls to action and signed the petition or emailed their state legislators, understand that we have confirmed this was a large part of why Beshears is removing interior designers from the bill. Your collective action was the difference maker. Over 4300 people took action to email the legislature in support of interior designers! This rapid response from interior designers that live, work, and design in Florida helps show the impact we have to protect and advance the profession through legislation. Thank you all!
To that end, our efforts are not done. Florida’s interior designers will need your support again to defend and advance the profession - maybe even during the remainder of this legislative session. Our lobbying team is keeping watch to ensure interior designers do not appear back in HB 7047 as it continues to make its way through the House and then on to the Senate.
Therefore, please make sure you are signed up for instant alerts by texting "InteriorDesignerFL" to the number 52886 or visit http://p2a.co/ILbboD8. Once again, thank you for standing with the profession and we look forward to being in touch with you again.

March 2, 2017:
In the last several days, we learned that a nationally coordinated campaign will be returning to our state in order to lobby for the repeal of Florida’s interior design law. This is similar to their previous effort in 2011 that also sought to roll back the advancement of the interior design profession. If we are to defeat them as we did then, we must show the state legislature again that there are many voices in support of Florida’s interior designers.
But first, you need the facts and then we will take action – together.
Click http://p2a.co/OGg4ejo or use your phone right away to TEXT “InteriorDesignerFL” to the number 52886. Each will send you a link to learn more about how this situation impacts you. Most importantly, it will provide you the opportunity to take action by signing a petition in support of Florida’s interior designers. Your voice can make a difference!
Stay tuned for updates from our lobbying team in Tallahassee on this developing situation. Until then, please spread the word by email, text, and social media to friends, family, colleagues, students, educators, and clients in Florida to sign the petition immediately. We must show a large amount of support from everyone who supports interior designers in Florida!
