Introducing the Howard Shore Scholarship

Howard Melvin Shore, 84, of Brookhaven, GA, passed away on May 11, 2024, at Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Edward and Ida Shore, Howard was a dedicated partner, father, and mentor. After moving to Atlanta in the early 1960s, Howard spent over four decades as a manufacturer's rep in the contract furniture industry, covering an eight-state Southeastern territory. Known for his work ethic, honesty, and integrity, he built a multi-million-dollar business and became a beloved mentor to many, offering guidance to young colleagues and leaving a lasting legacy in his industry.

Howard is survived by his fiancée, Barbara, children Jamie Lynn and Marc Allan, and his extended family. Through the Howard Shore Scholarship, his impact on both his community will never be forgotten.

Scholarship Eligibility:

We’re excited to announce the inaugural Howard Shore Scholarship Program is now open to all IIDA Florida Central Chapter Student Members! This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to students pursuing interior design degrees in the Central Florida area.  TWO recipients will be awarded $1,500.00 each annually! Applications close on April 11th for 2025.

Application Requirements:

  • Submit a 500-word essay describing the reason you joined the interior design field.

  • Submit one page of portfolio or one project presentation board.

  • Submit 1 letter of recommendation from an industry related professional.
